The 2017 William Larue Weller and Family- A Christmas Eve for the Ages

The 2017 William Larue Weller

AKA My Christmas Eve!

As you may know, my bourbon journey really started this year. The bourbon bug bit me hard and I have been on a mission to taste everything possible. My mission included a goal of buying a Buffalo Trace Antique Collection (BTAC) item.

Low and behold, I lucked out and manage to get my hands on a bottle of William Larue Weller. I was ecstatic and promised to wait until Christmas Eve to crack it open. I looked at that bottle every night in anticipation until the 24th finally arrived. As I ventured over to the in-laws, I knew I was in for a treat. But there was a wrinkle…

I didn’t realize that I had been talking up this bourbon for the last two months. I mean, it is a BTAC so of course I was going to tell everyone I knew about it. The unintended consequence was that all my family heard about this amazing bourbon… for two months. When the time came to finally open it, guess what? They wanted some! I am not one to hoard so I shared… and shared…. and shared.

Everyone loved it. Most importantly, I loved it. It is amazing, smooth and left a great warmth in my chest. I am not known for my tasting ability but the nose on it was full of complexity and warmth.

The best part? Sharing it with people that I love. I have been talking about bourbon and whiskey non-stop for the last 6 months and they have put up with all of it. It was great to be able to share in the moment of this (most likely) once in a lifetime chance to drink a BTAC.
